Love Calcutta Arts
In the heart of what used to be called the City of Joy is a place of despair.
It is a community characterized by poverty and pain, where most have few choices and little hope of change.
Calcutta houses one of the largest red light districts in the country, where thousands of women are forced into prostitution by poverty and slavery. Some are victims of trafficking, some of circumstance, but all are there because the choice of something better has been taken from them.
Tov Shop, together with Love Calcutta Arts has the desire to break this cycle of prostitution by bringing freedom to young girls and women who would otherwise be at risk of becoming victims of abuse.
They are given economic freedom by giving them a job and Love Calcutta endeavours to rebuild their self-worth and dignity.
All stationery products are the result of generations of traditional skills passed on with care to create quality paper products.
The girls at Love Calcutta Arts are trained in book binding, screen printing and embroidery. They manufacture i.a. notebooks, baby blankets and scarves from recycled silk and cotton Sari. All crafted, but more than that, it creates hope and a future.
By purchasing these products you contribute directly to improving the quality of life of these young women and the place they call "home". All profits go directly back into the business, creating more and new opportunities for other girls to have a brighter future.
